GENEALOGICAL NOTES AND ANECDOTES ARCHIBALD SLOAN
(1772 - 9 OCTOBER 1836):
Above is a portrait miniature of Archibald SLOAN. Since the portrait appears to be that of a man in his twenties, it seems reasonable to deduce that it was made in the 1790s and no later than 1800. The physical properties of the brooch which encloses the painting are those of the late 18th century. It is most likely that Archibald SLOAN presented this brooch to Agnes KELTON during his courtship of her. The brooched was inherited by Martin W. SLOAN; and, from him, it passed to Joseph Dudley SLOAN and thence to Winnie "Lucille" SLOAN.
