GENEALOGICAL NOTES AND ANECDOTES FROM INDIANOLA TO SEGUÍN: THE MAP OF JACOB
DE CÓRDOVA
Details of Jacob de Córdova's
Map of Texas [Jacob de Córdova first issued this map in 1849. De Córdova employed Charles W. Pressler to revise the map in 1855 and, in that same year, he sold its rights of publication to Joseph Hutchins Colton who printed it in 1856.] In this map, the route, which had been laid out by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels [Friedrich Wilhelm Carl Ludwig Georg Alfred Alexander, Prince of Solms, Lord of Braunfels, Grafenstein, Münzenberg, Wildenfels, and Sonnenwalde (27 July 1812, Neustrelitz - 13 November 1875, Rheingrafenstein, near Kreuznach on the Nahe River)] in 1844-45 from Indianola (Indian Point), through Victoria, Gonzales, and Seguín, to New Braunfels, Texas for the German immigrants arriving in Texas under the auspices of the Mainzer Adelsverein, incorporated at Biebrich am Rhein, in Hessen, on 20 April 1842, is clearly visible. It is the overland path which, in 1851, Sarah Rebecca MCCLELLAN (née LUCAS) took from Victoria to Seguín. About Sarah Rebecca LUCAS, see G0493A: George Augustine LUCAS, Lieutenant, Child 2: Sarah Rebecca LUCAS, in Descendants of Peter Lucas (ABT 1729 - 16 November 1781). About her journey, see From Tennessee to Texas: The Diary of Sarah Rebecca Lucas McClellan and the Letter of William Wilson Sloan: Texts.
