Note 2: Rodham RAWLINGS, who was from Tennessee, was a veteran of General Andrew Jackson's army at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. In the aftermath of the War of 1812, he resided for some time in Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. The marriage-bond for his wedding to Sarah ("Sally") Edrington JENNINGS was issued in Sumner County, Tennessee on 31 August 1812. He was previously married, 3 November 1808 (marriage-bond date), in Sumner County, Tennessee, to Aley (or Ally) SEAWELL. He is supposed to have been first married to Sarah SMITH.

Know all men, That we Rodham RAWLINGS, Chichester Howard, and Jno. Shelby of the county of Sumner and state of Tennessee are held and firmly bound unto the governor of the said state, for the time being in the sum of 1250 dollars, to be paid to his said excellency, his successors in office, or assigns, to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, and each and every one of us and them, both jointly and severally, and firmly by these presents:

Witness our hands and seals this 31st day of August 1812.

The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas Rodham RAWLINGS hath prayed and obtained a licence to marry Sally E. LUCAS, Now if there shall not appear any lawful cause why the said ^RAWLINGS & LUCAS^ should not be joined together in Holy Matrimony, as husband and wife, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

/s/ R. RAWLINGS <seal>
/s/ Chichester Howard <seal>
/s/ Jno. Shelby <seal>

Suspicion exists that the marriage of Sarah ("Sally) Edrington JENNINGS and Rodham RAWLINGS soon ended in divorce.
