GENEALOGICAL NOTES AND ANECDOTES

YECHIEL BARKMAN

This is the title-page of a text in Hebrew called Lev Yam, which literally means "Sea-Heart." It was printed in Vilna, Russia, in 1897. The author of the text is Yechiel BARKMAN whose surname, which appears in Hebrew characters, is underlined in red. The name also appears in Cyrillic characters near the bottom of the title-page.

Beneath the image, the name "Barkman" is shown, in large Hebrew characters, with a Roman-alphabet transcription underneath. Hebrew, of course, reads from right to left. The transcription is completely literal.

Lev Yam is listed in the catalogue of the Judaica Archival Project (http://www.virtualgeula.com/archival/eng/cat-ti-e.htm) and the title-page is exhibited at http://www.virtualgeula.com/archival/img/461.gif.
